‘Rainbow’

Deep purple (H10) flowers; VI-X; foliage variegated with green, gold, bronze and red tips; height 46-60cm; spread 61-75cm.

Sport from ‘Atropurpurea’, introduced by P. Lloyd (Fordingbridge, Hampshire, England) in 1966.

Name is an allusion to the multi-coloured foliage.

‘Rosea’

Pale beetroot (H9) flowers; VI-X; dark green foliage; height 31-45cm; spread 46-60cm. Although ‘Rosea’ as available at present is a single clone, the name was used in the past to indicate any plant with rose-pink flowers.

‘Rubra’

Deep purple flowers; VI-X; dark green foliage; semi-prostrate habit; height 16-20cm; spread 31-45cm.

‘Tinkerbell’

Rose-pink flowers; VI-X; mid-green foliage; low, compact habit. A seedling from Clive Benson’s nursery, near Leyland, Lancashire.

‘Waley’s Red’

Glowing deep magenta (H14) flowers with a slight trace of blue; VI-X; mid-green foliage; height 31-45cm; spread 46-60cm. A better plant than ‘Praegerae‘ but the colour is not quite as good. Collected in Spain by F. R. Waley, Sevenoaks, Kent, England.

‘Arthur P. Dome’

Ruby flowers; mid-green foliage; slow-growing, almost prostrate; height 10–15cm; spread 30–45cm. Can be grown without protection in USDA zone 8.

Obtained by Art Dome (Seattle, Washington, USA) from Mick Jamieson (Oak Bay Nursery, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) on 27 March 1940 as Menziesia azorica. Named in 2001 in tribute to Art Dome.

‘Gaia’

Deep crimson (H13) flowers; VIII–IX; foliage very dark green; habit broad spreading, upright; height 26–30cm; spread 46–60cm. A very hardy seedling, raised by Brita Johansson: it survived the disastrous winter in Sweden in 1995–1996). Named after the Greek earth godess and the first mother of all the Greek gods. Registered 13 January 2000; Brita Johansson, Musselvagen 3, 468 34, Vargon, Sweden.

‘Galaxy’

♤ White buds, VIII–IX; yellow-gold foliage; tidy, compact, upright. Better than most other gold-foliaged white-budded clones; of Canadian origin.
